License Management — Reference

Refer to the tables below for field descriptions when you want to view or edit License Management settings in SAM settings in Snow Atlas.

General

The general settings let you, for example, enable license assignment tracking and define allowlist and denylist for file extensions.

Field label

Description

Allow users to save incomplete licenses

If this setting is enabled, users are allowed to start to register a license purchase and complete it later when all details are available.

Check that the license external id is not already used when adding new license purchases

If this setting is enabled, users are prevented from adding the same license purchase twice by mistake.

Enable license assignment tracking

If this setting is enabled, changes to license assignments are tracked.

Note that this will also add additional mandatory steps to the license registration process.

Allowlist for file extensions

A comma-separated list of the type of files that users are allowed to upload as attachments to, for example, licenses, agreements, and computers in SAM Core.

Denylist for file extensions

A comma-separated list of the type of files that users are not allowed to upload as attachments to, for example, licenses, agreements, and computers in SAM Core.

Enable allowlist for applications

If this setting is enabled, users are allowed to define criteria for applications that are approved for installation and usage in the IT environment.

User accounts to exclude from inventory data

A comma-separated list of user accounts to exclude from being transferred to Snow Atlas.

To exclude usernames with an underscore _, use brackets around the underscore [_].

Enable anonymous user management

If this setting is enabled, all usernames are hidden to meet integrity demands.

Use experimental software recognition

Can be used as an alternative source for software recognition.

If this setting is enabled, the time to recognize the applications installed on the computers is reduced.

Datacenter

The datacenter setting lets you automatically remove computer names from auto-generated datacenters when no new inventory data is received.

Number of days to wait without new inventory data before removing computer names from auto-generated datacenters

The number of days until computer names are removed from auto-generated datacenters if no new inventory data is received.

Computer and mobile device quarantine

Quarantine management lets you manually or automatically clean out computers and mobile devices with no recent usage.

If quarantine management is enabled for auto-generated datacenters, note that the members of the datacenters will not be affected by the quarantine settings. To enable quarantine management for members of datacenters, you must first remove the members from the datacenters. For more information, see Datacenter.

Field label

Description

Number of inactive days until a computer or mobile device is set to quarantine

The number of inactive days until the status of computers and mobile devices is set to Quarantined.

The status Quarantined will not affect license assignments or compliance calculations. However, the status is visible in reports so that you can decide if you want to keep or delete the computers and mobile devices.

The status will be set to Active if a quarantined computer or mobile device starts to communicate again. You can also manually change the status to Active.

Number of days a computer or mobile device will be in quarantine until action

The number of days computers and mobile devices will be in quarantine until the setting Action after quarantine is applied.

Action after quarantine

The action for computers and mobile devices after they have been in quarantine.

  • Delete - Computers and mobile devices will be completely deleted and not visible in any reports.

  • Inactive - Computers and mobile devices will be visible in reports with the status Inactive. Inactive computers and mobile devices are excluded from compliance calculations which means that they will no longer require licenses for any installed software.

  • Archive - Archived computers and mobile devices are removed and all licenses currently attached to them are released.

Enable action after quarantine

If this setting is enabled, computers and mobile devices will be deleted or archived, or the status will be set to Inactive after they have been in quarantine.

Currency

The currency setting lets you define the currency used in views and reports.

Field label

The currency that is used for all financial values in views and reports.

Software usage metering

The setting for software usage metering lets you define for how long software metering data is stored.

The number of months the system stores software metering data.

Remote device quarantine

Quarantine management lets you manually or automatically clean out remote devices with no recent usage.

Field label

Description

Number of inactive days until a remote device is set to quarantine

The number of inactive days until the status of remote devices is set to Quarantined.

The status Quarantined will not affect license assignments or compliance calculations. However, the status is visible in reports so that you can decide if you want to keep or delete the remote devices.

The status will be set to Active if a quarantined remote device starts to report again. You can also manually change the status to Active.

Number of days a remote device will be in quarantine until it is deleted

The number of days remote devices will be in quarantine until they are deleted.

Delete remote device after it has been in quarantine

If this setting is enabled, remote devices will be deleted after they have been in quarantine.

User quarantine

Quarantine management lets you manually or automatically clean out user accounts with no recent usage.

Number of inactive days until a user account is set to quarantine

The number of inactive days until the status of user accounts is set to Quarantined.

The status Quarantined will not affect license assignments or compliance calculations. However, the status is visible in reports so that you can decide if you want to keep or delete the user accounts.

Number of days a user account will be in quarantine until it is deleted

The number of days user accounts will be in quarantine until they are deleted.

Delete user account after it has been in quarantine

If this setting is enabled, user accounts are deleted after they have been in quarantine.

User account exclusions

User account exclusions let you exclude users, for example, Service accounts, when calculating the most recent or the most frequent computer or mobile device users.

User accounts to exclude from calculation of most frequent user

A comma-separated list of usernames to exclude when calculating the most frequent computer or mobile device users.

The most frequent user is based on all logon data in the system.
