Manage tags
Tags are virtual Post-it notes that are attached to devices. The tags are used to mark devices with a specific characteristic, for example Manager. The tags can then be used for creating smart filters for packages.
Tags and smart filters
A smart filter is an additional function of a package. It limits the impact of the package to target only devices that are tagged, or not tagged, with specific tags.
An example would be a package with a smart filter targeting devices with the tag Manager. In this case, the package will only be applied to devices in, or under, the user group to which the package is added AND that also are tagged with the Manager tag.
A smart filter is created as part of creating a package. You can also create and edit a smart filter on the Configuration tab in the Packages overview view for the package, see Edit package settings.

Alternatively, if you want to manage tags for several devices in a user group at the same time:
In the Domain browser, navigate to the user group with the devices.
On the Devices tab, select the check boxes for one or more of the devices in the user group.
On the More options
menu, select Manage tags.
The Manage tags window appears.
To add an existing tag: Type a keyword in the Find or create tag box, and then select the tag from the drop-down list.
To create a new tag: Type the name of the tag in the Find or create tag box, and then select Add tag.
To remove a tag: Select the X next to the tag name.
Select Confirm.
When you add a tag to a device, any package that is assigned to the device's user group and that contains a smart filter with the tag, will be automatically applied to the device. Equivalently, when you remove a tag from a device, any package that is assigned to the device and that contains a smart filter with the tag, will be automatically removed from the device.
The package Block camera contains a smart filter with the tag Security. The package blocks Android devices marked with the tag Security from using the camera app. The package is added to user group B.
The enrolled Android device John Doe's device belongs to user group B. It is not targeted by the package, since it is not marked with the tag Security.
When the tag Security is added to John Doe's device, the settings of the Block camera package is automatically assigned to the device, and it is blocked from using the camera app.
