Applications
In Snow License Manager, an application is defined as a computer program. Each application is associated with one or several filtering rules used to recognize the programs installed on the inventoried computers.
There are two types of applications in Snow License Manager: global applications and local applications.
The global applications are provided by the Software Recognition Service (SRS) and distributed to all subscribers of the SRS. The global applications can neither be edited nor deleted.
If you want to modify a global application, you must override the SRS definition of the application and create your local application definition. Your local definition only applies to your Snow License Manager system. As long as the global application is overridden, centrally distributed changes made to the SRS definition of the application will not apply to your local application. If your local application for some reason is removed, the SRS definition will be enabled again.
Another type of local application is software that is not covered by the Software Recognition Service (SRS) but needs to be handled in your Snow License Manager platform, for example:
In-house/bespoke software
Commercial applications for which no inventory data is available (no installations can be detected)
Addition of different licenses forms (Authorized Users, Concurrent Users etc.)
You create your local applications in Snow Management and Configuration Center. The process includes specification of the application and definition of filtering rules.
