Software requirements

Here you can find the software requirements for Snow License Manager 9 and Snow Inventory Server 6.

Snow License Manager 9: Server requirements

These recommendations span minimum, midpoint, and high-end scenarios for server installations of Snow License Manager.

Regardless of the used inventory solution, Snow Inventory Server needs to be installed as the inventory data source for Snow License Manager. All external inventory data sources need to report to Snow Inventory via Snow Integration Manager.

Snow supports Windows Server versions and editions that have neither reached end of mainstream support nor retirement. See the Microsoft Lifecycle Product End of Support overview page for details.

Roles and features

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2

The two roles Application server and Web server are required.

The web role service Application Development is required, including ASP.NET functionality.

The web role service Security is required, including Basic Authentication and Windows Authentication.

Snow License Manager 9: Web client requirements

Snow supports browser versions that are supported by the respective browser vendor, and that implement the following features:

  • JavaScript

  • cookies

  • CSS

Versions and Editions

Snow supports Windows SQL Server versions and editions that have neither reached end of mainstream support nor retirement; see exceptions below. See the Microsoft SQL Server end of support options page for details.

The Data Update Job in Snow License Manager requires Microsoft SQL Server Agent. This means that, for example, SQL Server Express edition is not supported.

Note: For installations covering more than 50,000 computers/devices, SQL Server Enterprise is recommended.

Database configurations

  • Availability groups for high availability (HA) are not supported.

  • Case-sensitive collations are not supported.

  • The Snow Inventory database and the Snow License Manager database must exist on the same SQL Server instance.

  • The Snow Inventory database and the Snow License Manager database must use the same collation.

  • SQL Server authentication must be enabled.

  • The COMPATIBILITY_LEVEL for the Snow Inventory and Snow License Manager databases must be set to the Default compatibility level designation of the implemented version of SQL Server. See the Microsoft ALTER DATABASE (Transact-SQL) compatibility level page for details.
