Manage devices

This section describes how to manage devices in Snow Mobility Manager.

Register multiple devices

To register multiple new devices at the same time:

  1. On the Devices menu, click Register multiple devices.

    The Register multiple devices view appears.

  2. Click Upload file in the top right corner.

    The Import file dialog box appears.

  3. In the dialog box: 

    1. Drag a file to the import area or click Select a file to select a file.

    2. Verify that the correct delimiter is selected in the Select delimiter list.

    3. Match the columns in the import file with the correct columns in Snow Mobility Manager by selecting the columns in the drop-down lists.

    4. Click Import file.

      The Register multiple devices view appears again, showing the rows in the import file. If the import file contains rows with incomplete data, the incomplete fields are highlighted.

  4. If needed, correct the data in the incomplete fields and then click the CorrectedField.png icon.

    Rows with valid data are moved to the Rows with complete and valid data section.

  5. Click Finish.

    The Register multiple devices summary shows the result of the registration.

  6. To export a file with the registered devices, click Export successfully registered devices.

  7. To export a file with the unregistered devices, click Export devices that failed to register.

  8. To start a new registration, click Register new device.

Note

The format type of the the import file must be CSV. It is recommended to specify the information in the import file as username,email,phone.

It is recommended to only import files with less than 250 rows. To import files with more than 250 rows, contact Snow Support.

Register device

  1. Navigate to the Register device view according to one of the following steps:

    • On the Devices menu, click Register device.

    • Search for a user, select the user to open the User view, and then click Add device to user.

  2. To select a device profile, select to auto-detect the device profile or select the device profile.

  3. To select a user , type a keyword in the Search box and select a user.

    User information is automatically fetched from Snow Device Manager.

  4. To enter device information:

    1. Type Device name.

    2. Optionally, type Device phone number.

  5. Click Register device.

    If the device was successfully registered, an information message is displayed.

    An email message is sent to the device with instructions for the user how to register the device. A text message with the same information is also sent to the device if a Device phone number was registered.

Enroll device by scanning a QR code

An Android 7 device, or a later version of an Android device, can be enrolled in Snow Device Manager by scanning a QR code in Snow Mobility Manager. The QR code is created in Snow Mobility Manager when the device is registered.

Before a device can be enrolled by scanning a QR code, a QR reader must be downloaded and activated on the device.

Note

The device can only be enrolled if the device has not yet been configured. If the device has been configured, it has to be reset to factory settings before enrollment.

Activate a QR reader on the device

  1. Start the device.

    The Welcome screen appears.

  2. Tap Welcome six times.

    The QR code Setup wizard appears.

  3. Tap Next.

  4. Connect to a network.

  5. Tap Accept and continue.

Enroll device

In Snow Mobility Manager:

  1. On the Devices menu, click Enroll by QR code.

    The Enroll by QR code wizard appears.

  2. In the Step 1 - Select a user view:

    1. Type a keyword in the Search for user box and then select the user from the drop-down list.

    2. Click Next.

  3. In the Step 2 - Configure enrollment settings view:

    1. To protect data on the device, leave the Encrypt device check box selected.

    2. To uninstall the preinstalled system applications on the device, leave the Leave system apps enabled check box clear.

    3. Click Next.

  4. In the Step 3 - Add packages view:

    1. Optionally, select the packages that initially should be added to the device.

      Note

      Only packages that have previously been created for Android devices in Snow Device Manager can be added.

    2. Click Next.

  5. In the Step 4 - Enroll device view:

    1. Scan the QR code on the computer screen with the device.

    2. Tap OK on the device.

      The Snow app is downloaded and Snow is activated as device administrator.

View device

  1. On the Devices menu, click View device.

  2. Type a keyword in the Search for devices box and then select the device from the drop-down list.

    Information about the device, specifications for the device, and the associated user is displayed in the Device view.

    Note

    The search will find all devices that match a search criterion. However, the drop-down list shows only a limited number of search results. Therefore, the search criterion must be refined, for example by typing the full device name, to show the correct search result.

Send package to device

To be able to send a package to a device from Snow Mobility Manager, a manager must first have published a deployment with the package to Self Service in Snow Device Manager.

To send a package to a device:

  1. Navigate to the Device view for the device.

  2. Click Send package.

    The Send package dialog box appears.

    Note

    Only packages published for the specific device profile are available.

  3. Optionally, select a category to filter the available packages.

  4. Find the package, and then click Send to device or Re-send to device.

Enroll device

To enroll a previously registered device:

  1. Navigate to the Device view for the device.

  2. Click Enroll.

    An information message to confirm the enrollment is displayed.

Block or allow a device access to Microsoft Exchange

Snow Mobility Manager can have an external integration with Microsoft Exchange server to synchronize devices.

To block or allow a device access to Microsoft Exchange:

  1. Navigate to the Device view for the device.

  2. Perform one of the following actions:

    • Click Block.

      A command to block the device from accessing Microsoft Exchange is sent.

    • Click Allow to allow the device to synchronize.

      A command to allow the device to access Microsoft Exchange is sent.

Delete device

When a device is deleted, it is moved to an archive database and removed from the server.

To delete a device from Snow Mobility Manager:

  1. Navigate to the Device view for the device.

  2. Click Delete.

  3. Click Delete to confirm the deletion.

Wipe device

To permanently wipe all data from a device:

  1. Navigate to the Device view for the device.

  2. Click Wipe.

  3. Click Wipe to confirm the wipe.

Note

The device can be re-enrolled if it has been wiped. The device does not have to be registered again.

Edit device

  1. Navigate to the Device view for the device.

  2. Click Edit.

    The Edit device dialog box appears.

  3. Edit Name and Phone number.

  4. Click Save

View associated user

To view information about the associated user for a device:

  1. Navigate to the Device view for the device.

  2. Click the View user  to the right of the user.

    Information about the user is shown in the User view.

View installed applications

To view all applications installed on a device:

  1. Navigate to the Device view for the device.

  2. Click the Applications tab.

  3. To sort the applications list:

    • To sort the list by another column than the first column, click the column header.

    • To reverse the sorting order, click the same column header once again.

      Note

      The application list is by default sorted based on the first column, but can be sorted by another column.

      A selected sort order is indicated by an arrow in the column header.

  4. To filter the application list, type a keyword in the Filter box below the column header.

    Only rows that match the filter are displayed.

To export a list of all applications installed on a device:

  • Click Export to CSV.
